Sharks

February 17, 2010 by Excelsior   Comments (1)

attacks occur, called white, great white shark, shark attacks occur, shark attacks, white shark, being, called, pointer, great white

I've had an addiction to learning about sharks for as long as I can remember (probably from the time I first saw "Jaws" and the ensuing sequels), specifically, the Carcharadon carcharias, also known as the great white shark (again influenced by "Jaws". lol). I find them to be fascinating animals. Although I've never seen this in person, just seeing a picture of a great white breaching the surface of the water to go after a bird or a sea lion or some other such tasty morsel is amazing. Flying sharks...who knew?

Anyway, while perusing a Web site that gives random facts about anything and everything of the shark persuasion, I came across some interesting facts:  Did you know that:

--- The great white shark has 3,000 teeth at any one time. A white shark may grow and use over 20,000 teeth in its lifetime.

--The white shark can poke its head up out of the water.

--The bull shark is the only shark that can live in both fresh and salt water. A bull shark may have been responsible for a shark attack that happened in a creek in New Jersey back in 1916.

--Sharks attack more men than women. No one knows why this is the case.

--Many people believe that sharks only live in the oceans. However, they are distributed in bodies of water found all over the world.

--Most shark attacks occur less than 100 feet from the shore.

I'd
heard about the fact that most shark attacks occur close to the shore, but I was thinking it was more in the range of being 300 feet. I stand corrected. :)  I'd also like to add that along with being called "White Death," the great white is also called "White Pointer" in Australia, and "Blue Pointer" in South Africa.*  Any way you look at it, the white shark is awesome. That's the long and short of it, in my humble opinion..

medical, hospital, since, because, little, would, there, going, where, anything

I'm starting to think I'm going to be a professional student.

My dad showed me an ad in the newspaper where the local technical school is offering free call center training starting next week and running all the way to February 26. The only cost is the $22, and that's for the book. So, me being in dire need of a job and willing to do anything to get one, I called about it and am going in the morning to fill out an application over there. Hopefully I'll be hired to actually do what I've been trained to do. lol

I still would like to be in a hospital medical receptionist position one day--actually, to be specific, I would like to be a medical biller/coder, but since that hasn't worked out yet, I'll take anything I can get that isn't in a fast food restaurant. Who knows? I might like this better than a hospital job. It's all about the attitude, and I'm determined to go in with a positive one.

There was something else I wanted to say...oh, I remember. It's about life changing even though you don't want it to. I found an old friend of mine on MySpace a few weeks ago; she's married now and has a child. It's weird because I thought of her as a little sister way back when, that's how close we were. Life has come a long way since then, as I quickly learned. While I'm genuinely happy for her and where she is at this point in her life, I'm also a little sad because it gives more support to the whole "You can never go home again" theory. I've been stuck back in the 80s since the 80s, and I know I should let the past go and move on, but I don't want to let go of my memories because they represent the best times of my life. How can I turn my back on that?

In any case, I've run out of things to say for now, so it's time for me to go goof off elsewhere on the Net. God bless, everyone!

I should have known better.

myself, first, which, reading, finish, rewetting drops, starting, books, because, thought

I learned a lesson the hard way this morning.

Before leaving to go to Mass, I grabbed what I thought were my rewetting drops (for my contact lenses). When I got to church, and about ten minutes into the service, my eyes were getting a bit dry, so I took the drops out and put some in my right eye. My eye burned like all get out, and I looked at the bottle and realized that what I'd grabbed weren't my rewetting drops, but my ear drops. Talk about feeling stupid...my eye was burning like the dickens, and because of that I couldn't concentrate on what was being said during Mass. Needless to say, when I got home, I took my lenses out, rinsed my eyes, and put my glasses on in order to let my poor eyes air out. So what's the moral of this story? Always wake up before you attempt to prepare for your day. lol

Due to the large amount of books I have in my room, and because I have no idea which ones to read first, I've made myself a little journal in which I'm listing which books I'm reading next. Obviously, since I've been reading the "Twilight" series, I'm going to finish those books first, and then I picked two more books to finish after that. It's giving me a set schedule so that I don't find myself in a dilemma over what to read next. I wish I had thought to do something like this sooner. Oh, well.

The Saints are starting to frustrate me. I know that Payton's resting the starting players, but for the love of everything sacred and holy, why can't the second-stringers play as well as the first-stringers? ARGH! I'm starting to look forward to the end of football season...I don't think I can handle the insanity for too much longer. :S

That's it for now. God willing, I'll return tomorrow. God bless, everyone!

Jerk, rattle, and roll

January 2, 2010 by Excelsior   Comments (1)

something, times, normal, tests, going, jerked, frustrating, there, haven, about

I've been having more muscle jerks and spasms as of recently. Last night my head jerked to the left again. It's always jerked to the left, and I don't know why. I've had an MRI and two EEGs to try to figure out what's going on, but all of these tests come out to be normal. It's frustrating because along with the head jerks, my arms jerk, my legs jerk, and there were a couple of times when I was napping that my whole body jerked me into a sitting position. Those particular times scared the dickens out of me.

I know there's something going on, but since the tests have all been normal, what can I do about it? I haven't been diagnosed with epilepsy, but I haven't been told anything else that might be going on. It's aggravating, frustrating, and any other "-ating" that you can think of. Maybe when I go to have more bloodwork down in about three weeks, plus my doctor's appointment roughly a week after that, the doctors will be able to tell me something. Here's hoping.

Happy New Year, fellow Goofs!

favorite, grape juice, juice, planning, rsquo, grape, lsquo, hellip, glass

Well, it’s that time again…time to bring out the crazy party hats, whistles, confetti, and a whole lot of your favorite adult (or not-so-adult) beverages…time to ring in 2010 and say “Good riddance” to 2009. ‘09 wasn’t one of my favorite years, healthwise. I can’t tell you how many times I had to go to the doctor for some complaint or another. Here’s hoping that ‘10 will be a better year, especially on the job-hunting front. :D

I don’t know what y’alls plans are, but I’m planning on getting absolutely plastered on sparkling grape juice tonight. LOL! Again for medical reasons, I can’t have alcohol, but that’s no big deal. I don’t miss drinking, and frankly, I really didn’t see what was so wonderfully exciting about it. Grape juice is just as good…I might have one glass for each time zone that rings in the New Year. Glass #1 will celebrate the East Coast’s New Year, glass #2 will be for the Central’s New Year, glass #3 will ring in the Mountain time zone’s New Year, and glass #4 will be raised for the Pacific New year. :D I won’t get to bed until around 3 in the morning. hehe It’s all gravy, though.

Sooo…I think I’ll end this here. Happy New Year, everyone! Stay safe, and God bless!

Disaster strikes

December 31, 2009 by Excelsior   Comments (1)

going, wanted, philosophy, question, froze

I had a job interview today. I can describe how it went in one word--disaster. I completely froze up at the question about "Why do you want to work for this company?", and again at the question of "What's your philosophy toward work?"

"Philosophy toward work"? Say what? O.O

For me, it's as simple as this: Work is work; if you do a good job, you get rewarded for it. On the other hand, if you do poor work, you suffer the consequences. I'm not sure if the lady wanted to hear an answer similar to this, or if she wanted me to give a long-winded speech, so I did what I normally do when faced with an unusual question such as this...I froze. I could feel the deer-in-the-headlights look on my face, as well as the death glare that she was sending my way. Needless to say, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to get the job. I'm not too sad, though--it was a marketing job, and I am not a person who's cut out to be in that line of work. One of these days I'm going to find my niche. I just hope I don't have to wait too much longer.

That's it for now. I'm going to start cooking my chicken and my ground beef so I'll have something to eat for supper. Talk to y'all later!

WHO DAT!

Picture this.

The New Orleans Superdome on a Monday night...70,000+ fans are screaming and stomping and clapping and cheering as their Saints storm out onto the field, ready for the night's battle against the Patriots of New England. After four rousing quarters of hard-nose football, the Saints are victorious by a 21-point margin. Impossible? Nope. That's what happened last night on Monday Night Football. The New Orleans Saints defeated the New England Patriots by a score of 38-17 to become 11-0 for the season. It was a score that not many people would have predicted, or if they had predicted it, it would have been the Patriots scoring by that margin, not the Saints.
It was beautiful. I'm hoping now that the rest of the NFL starts paying attention to New Orleans as a bona fide Super Bowl contender, though it's still too early to predict, and even the Saints players themselves will say that it's too early, that they still have five more games against tough opponents. True...but it's always fun to fantasize, right? :)

WHO DAT!

Today's babbling

November 17, 2009 by Excelsior   Comments (1)

I was looking at some of the blogs here and thinking to myself, "Why can't my blog be more interesting? All I do is talk about myself and the petty things that happen in my life. I can never think of anything that's relevant to more readers here, such as something about NASCAR and why it's so popular, or about sharks, or maybe even something about how to make fondue. There has to be some way to look past the bubble that is, me, me, me ("I wanna talk about me, I wanna talk about I, I wanna..."  You get the picture. And thanks to Toby Keith for that awesome song that is "I Wanna Talk About Me"!).  In any case, here's my bit of news for tooday. Enjoy!

My life could not have gotten more interesting yesterday. I was taken out of Mass and off to the hospital because of some horrible pains I started having. To make a long story short, I reached the hospital, had an EKG done, waited for roughly six hours, saw the doctor, had lab work done, had an X-ray taken, went back to talk to the doctor, and then was told to eat more fiber such as apples, watermelons, bran cereal, and other such fibery foods. So yeah...it was a fun day yesterday.

Right now I'm waiting to hear from the ladies at the hospital who interviewed me last week. I'm hoping that I'm going to be hired, because Lord knows I have many, many things to pay off (school loans, etc...all the fun bills.). But, I think I've spoken about that before, so I'm not going to keep beating a dead horse about it.

Meh. That's about it for now. G'night!

Awaiting The Call and The Game

November 14, 2009 by Excelsior   Comments (2)

I'm hoping that I get the job that I interviewed for yesterday. The ladies told me that they would be calling me sometime in the early-ish/middle-ish part of this coming week to let me know their decision, so needless to say, I'm eagerly awaiting The Call. If I do get the job, it's going to be such a relief...there is so much stuff that I need to pay off, school loans being just one of them. *prays*

What else to say? LSU's homecoming game is tonight. They're playing Louisiana Tech. While I don't want to seem overconfident--Lord knows that once you think that you have a game in the bag without even playing one quarter, you end up either squeaking past an opponent with one or two points difference, or you lose outright. The teams that you underestimate are usually the ones you have the most trouble with, because they're out to prove themselves in a major way.

That's about it for now. I'm off to look for other Web sites to peruse. Have a great day! :D

It's so funny how we as human beings can be so thrilled with even the smallest things in life. Case in point: I let my mom borrow a little table in my room that I normally have a lamp, my diary, and other stuff on, and I never realized how much I loved that table until it was gone from my room. It came back last night, though, and I was incredibly happy about that. There's a saying that goes something like "The simple are easily amused"...if that's the case, I must be an amoeba. LOL!  Just kidding. I have a tendency to laugh at myself sometimes.

Anyhoo...yeah, I must sound like I'm off my rocker.  I'd better leave off here for now; I can't really think of anything else I want to say. God bless! :D
