An 80’s Music Primer For EDM DJs That Have Booked A Wedding

If you're a DJ that specializes in EDM and House music, but have booked a wedding where the couple has said they want some 80's music played, then you better expand your repertoire and brush up on some classic songs. You should pick out the songs and work them into your set ahead of time so that you can mix them in seamlessly with your other music. Some of them you can remix, but others you should leave as is. The list below will tell you which ones can be remixed.

This list is for young DJs who are not big fans of 80's music. The biggest mistake you can make is just picking out big smash hits from the 80's. Does Thriller really make a great wedding song? Probably not, so here are some great love songs that you should prep for your set.

Your Love- The Outfield

This is a classic song from a British band. They had a few other hits, but this was their biggest one. It is a non-conventional love song, and if you listen the lyrics, it's actually concerns a steam affair; however, it is still a favorite of 80's fans. The refrain, where the singer pines for Josie and sings that "I don't wanna lose your love tonight" certainly resonates with anyone who has ever been in love. It's an excellent song about the intense passion of love.

It's also a faster tempo, upbeat song that has been remixed by numerous House, Trap and EDM DJs, so you can get an idea of how to mix it in with your regular music. It's a great alternative to some of the slower music that is going to be mentioned.

I Want To Know What Love Is- Foreigner

This is a classic song that's perfect for slow dances. It's got that epic 80's ballad, with soaring guitars and a classic vocal performance. The lines are absolutely perfect for a wedding: "I want to know what love is. I want you to show me."

Unlike the song mentioned above by The Outfield, this one shouldn't be tampered with. It's a slow ballad, so you don't want to try and speed it up or mess with the tempo. It's fine to do a fade in and fade out, but avoid any heavy remixing with this one.

Take My Breath Away- Berlin

If you've seen Top Gun, then you know the song. It's a sultry song that's another slow jam. While this is a slow song, it is actually a popular one to remix. There's even a very popular version remixed by Tiesto. That one's a bit too fast for a wedding, but you can get an idea of how to incorporate bass drops and other stylistic changes. Of course, you could just play it as is because it is an amazing song on its own.

Dancing In The Dark- Bruce Springsteen

This one's not a love song, but it is a great song to get everyone up and dancing. It's got an awesome beat and is fast enough so that folks who don't want to slow dance will feel comfortable up on the dance floor. It's also a song that tends to transcend generations, so the parents and older people will love it as much as the bridge and groom and their friends. Of course you don't remix the Boss. You play the song as is. Contact a company like Music Lifeline DJ and Entertainment Service for more information.
